Who are You?

I heard my cousin say once that trying to understand You is like opening a door which leads to two more doors. Those two doors lead to four doors. Four leads to eight. Eight leads to sixteen. Sixteen to thirty-two. Thirty-two to sixty-four. Sixty-four doors lead to a hundred and twenty-eight doors, and it just keeps on going on like that.

How big are Your ears that You hear the prayers of a million people all at once? How big are Your palms? Do You have eyebrows that furrow? Do You give bombastic side eyes? Speaking of Your eyes, are they big or wide? How do You see all of us at once? Do You sometimes just want to close Your eyes? What will happen if You close your eyes?

Do you sit in a control room? Do You sit in one position or do You have different sitting positions with a favourite one? Do You have the files of all 8 billion of us neatly stacked up in a room? What buttons do you tap to release blessings?

How exactly do You love? Does Your heart burn with love always? Do You love until the point that it hurts? How bad does it hurt when we seek or beg for the love of other people? Are there days You decide to give chasing a rest?

When the angels praise You, what do You do? Are the praises new every morning just like Your mercies? Are they songs? Do You move Your body a bit?

When I cry, are You sad? Do You smile inside for what You know is coming? When I laugh, do You laugh because of how contagious it is? When I’m excited, do You chuckle at the bigger things You have in store? Your sense of humour is top-notch. Do You get amused by the things we do? More specifically, do You get amused by the things Nigerians do? Do You laugh? If You do laugh, do the Heavens rumble when You do?

Do You wait excitedly for me to show up at 2am when all I do is sit in Your presence and talk with You in different tongues? You are the one who keeps a record of my hurts and stores my tears in a bottle. How many more bottles will You be needing?

When You look at the world today, are You disappointed? Did You hope it wouldn’t go down this path? Are You happy with the ones rising up and doing Your work?

Just as you do not know the way and path of the wind or how the bones are formed in the womb of a pregnant woman, even so you do not know the activity of God who makes all things.- Ecclesiastes‬ ‭11‬:‭5‬
